2014 was a great year for slot machine fans. Developers have brought us some of their finest games to date during the last year – some video slots with advanced graphics and sound, and others with great wins and jackpots thrown into the hat. Here are the best video slots that have been launched during the year 2014, which you can play at an online casino for real money or for free, sorted by developer.

1. Microgaming

Let’s start with the oldest real money casino game developer, the Isle of Man based Microgaming. Last year the company has launched several great slot machines, including two new movie-based slots: the fabulous Terminator 2: Judgement Day and the fantastically entertaining Jurassic Park. They have also launched a new football-themed video slot called Football Star, as well as a new game based on the hit TV series Game of Thrones – this one has disappointed the series’ fans, but has proven to be a great video slot machine in itself.

2. Net Entertainment

The Swedish developer Net Entertainment has nothing to be ashamed of as well. Last year it has launched a fantastic video slot based on the Aliens franchise, as well as The Invisible Man late in the year – both video slots are entertaining and lucrative at the same time. The company has also continued its South Park series with Reel Chaos – a great game to capture the atmosphere of the animated Comedy Central series. Still, one of my favorites is their Go Bananas! video slot with its innovative wilds and funny graphics – you can have a great time playing that.

3. Playtech

Playtech doesn’t release new games so often – probably this is why its game list is quite short. Still, it has released some nice games last year: Ice Run and The White King in November, Alchemist’s Spell and Battle of the Gods in July, Sherlock Mystery and Esmeralda (Progressive) in June, Cat Queen and Football Carnival in May, Sunset Beach and Angel and Devil in April, and the Three Musketeers and the Queen’s Diamond in March. The company was seemingly more occupied with expanding into new online gambling territories than with the development of new games.

4. Other developers

Realtime Gaming has launched The Naughty List and Wild Wizards in December, Voodoo Magic in October, High Fashion, Megasaur, Football Frenzy, Shark School in 2014 – weak from such a veteran developer. Yggdrasil – a smaller, emerging developer from Sweden has launched great games, like Draglings in December, Casino Zeppelin in November, Magic Mushroom in July and Robotnik in April (and some more, but all of them are great). Rabcat has launched its famous Castle Builder in April, which has found its way to Microgaming’s casinos due to a distribution deal signed by the companies last year.

Overall, 2014 was a great year for video slots, and 2015 will be even greater, with The Golden Era (Microgaming) and Steam Tower (NetEnt) already in the works, and Tornado Farm Escape (NetEnt) ready to be released soon.
