Blackjack Card Counting and Ranking

Card ranking is all that matters and effects in your blackjack counting system. Ranking cards matters a lot in the game and for doing that each card is assigned a positive or a negative value on the basis of its rank. For instance, the high value cards like Jack, Queen, King and Ace are usually assigned negative values. While the cards from 2 through 9 are assigned positive value. On the basis of these values, you can calculate the total blackjack count and take advantage when you have to place your bets in the game.

Blackjack Card Counting Methods

Many methods have been invented over the years to count cards. But, here we are with the simplest blackjack card counting methods of all.

Hi/Lo Method

This method requires the cards from 2 to 6 be assigned a positive value of +1. Jack, Queen, King and Ace are assigned the value of -1. The cards from 7 to 9 are assigned a value of 0.

The game is started with a count of 0. Each time a player or the dealer receives a positive card, add a 1 to your count. Whereas, with a negative card being dealt to anyone in the game, subtract 1 from your count.

Depending upon the cards dealt, you may either end up getting a positive or a negative count. If you get a positive count of +2 or more, it refers that you can expect to get high value cards which can ultimately help you get a blackjack in the game. So, you can place relatively higher bets in such a situation. But with a negative count at your end, place smaller bets, since your chances of getting a blackjack are lower in the game.

That’s all you need to begin, but blackjack counting cards requires focus and the ability to calculate quickly. Therefore, practice it enough before you hit a casino table.
