Absolute Poker now has a Mac version of its software that you can download right at the Absolute Poker website. Unlike most poker sites, this is actual software that was designed for Mac computers. Most poker websites claim to be “Mac compatible” but that’s just because they offer no-download poker that you can play through your web browser.

There’s nothing wrong with no-download poker but it’s not actually designed with Mac users in mind. The software at Absolute Poker, on the other hand, was made just for the Mac. That means you’ll get the full experience and great graphics as PC users have had for years.

Absolute Poker Mac Software

Playing Absolute Poker on a Mac is actually a lot of fun thanks to the new software. You can access the poker room any time by running the software. Now, there’s no need to rely on web-based software or complicated Windows emulators.

The graphics on the Mac version of the Absolute Poker software are nice and clear with bright, bold colors. You’ll also find smooth animations, fast dealers and an overall stable software experience. Freezes and crashes are rare if they exist at all (I haven’t experienced any).

There are a couple features missing from the Absolute Poker Mac software but only one of them is worth worrying about. The biggest feature missing from the Mac version is the lack of multi-tabling ability. Mac players can only play at three tables at a time. Absolute Poker promises to be working on a fix for that issue but it’s hard telling when that will be implemented.

The only other missing features are keyboard hotkeys, cascading tables and multiple table views. Those features might come in handy for some people but I have personally never used any of them. As long as you don’t mind being limited to three tables at a time, the Absolute Poker Mac software works like a charm.

If you really need to multi-table, you will have to either try a different poker site, play on a PC or use a Windows emulator. Windows emulators are special programs that allow you to use PC software on Macs. I’m not an expert on emulators so you’ll have to do your own research to find the best ones.

Getting Started

You can find a link to the Absolute Poker Mac download on the front page of the Absolute Poker website. Near the middle of the page there is a text link that says “AP Mac Version” that you can click on to download the Mac software. The Absolute Poker website changes all the time but you shouldn’t have any problems finding the link you need.

If you don’t already have an account at Absolute Poker, you can use the Absolute Poker referral code to get a massive sign up bonus. The current code for 2010 is APBONUS2010. When you sign up for an account, you’ll see a form that asks for your “Absolute Poker referral code.” Just type in the word APBONUS2010 and you’ll be tracked to receive a 150% bonus for up to $500 extra on your first deposit.
